SNV works across three sectors: Agriculture, Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. In Energy, SNV facilitates access to sustainable, clean and affordable energy sources for households and small enterprises for the development of a vibrant energy sector inclusive of vulnerable populations. Several international donors fund our programmes. SNV has a +100 million euro annual turnover and is aiming for further growth.


SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is looking for a:

Global Sector Coordinator Innovative Finance
40 hours a week



You are the centre of expertise and recognised global thought leader of SNV in development and implementation of innovative finance solutions (e.g. brokering blended finance solutions). Your focus will initially be on the Energy sector but you will also be available for the Agriculture and WASH sectors. You will identify new business opportunities for SNV, develop finance products and implementation modalities, ensure quality of delivery of relevant projects, coordinate learning and innovation, and maintain and expand SNV’s relations and partnerships with key players. You report directly to the Managing Director of the Energy sector and work in close collaboration with the Country Directors, Country Sector Leaders, the Global Energy Sector team and the Climate finance team members. Two other Global Sector Coordinators support the Energy sector in specific strategic areas. The position is based in The Hague (The Netherlands).


  • Lead SNV’s innovative finance product development with an emphasis on the Energy sector. This includes blended finance solutions for off-grid energy development, value chain financing, BoP finance solutions, deal structuring, carbon and other climate financing, result-based financing, project financing and grant management;
  • Identify new business by providing market- and donor intelligence and technical leadership to proposal development; validate potential financial partners.
  • Provide Technical Assistance to selected high profile projects, with a result target to have at least 50% of the available time covered;
  • Support high quality delivery of ongoing projects by coaching country teams;
  • Ensure sector performance monitoring and advise on corrective measures;
  • Lead thematic teams to develop innovative products and coordinate learning;
  • Maintain and expand relationships and partnerships with relevant thematic players;
  • Profile SNV’s Innovative Finance expertise among donors and partners;
  • Work with HR on staff learning and development;
  • Provide input to Marketing and Communications plans and products.


  • Master’s Degree in Finance, preferably with knowledge of the Energy and Climate sectors;
  • Proven track record with over 10 years of experience in the finance sector in an international context, including advisory work and implementation of (energy) projects;
  • Expertise in different energy access solutions;
  • Extensive experience in different financing and investment streams and funds, like blended finance, results based finance, grants, loans, risk guarantees and in structuring public-private sector development funds;
  • Focus on quality and driving for continuous improvement of delivery and innovation;
  • Proven track record in successfully acquiring competitive funding for projects;
  • Excellent communication (writing and oral), presentation and debating skills in English (working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage) with experience in profiling an organisation in an international setting;
  • Strong international networks within the Finance and Energy sector and institutional donor market;
  • Entrepreneurial, result-oriented and driver for change.
