Rural Spark, founded in 2013, is providing high quality energy solutions for rural India. Since it founding, over 100 Local Energy Suppliers have provided energy for over 5.000 people. However, the big market entry is yet to happen with the newly produced solution: the Rural Spark Energy Kit allows customers (Local Energy Suppliers) to generate electricity for their own usage as well as to sell to their fellow villagers, becoming resilient entrepreneurs. This tested solution is the first step in a smartly connected energy network.

With over 400 million people without access to electricity, rural India provides a unique opportunity to leapfrog existing top-down centralised energy solutions, and build the right grid from scratch, together with rural India.

Job description

As our Key Accounts Manager, you will be an important member of the sales team and would be responsible for exploring the sector and looking out for opportunities for partnerships, Source new accounts, build relationships and manage key accounts for the sales team and you will work directly with the Sales & Marketing Head. Also, you have a structured approach, ensuring possibilities to be realised.

Within Rural Spark you will grow on your sales and account management capabilities, growing towards an independent account- and sales manager. You will initially assist our Sales & Marketing Head with collecting leads and reaching out to them. Writing business proposals, preparing an offer that fits the potential client (B2B) and their customers is a key strength. As key account manager, you ensure a structured approach for the sales team from reaching out to a potential partner, till closing the deal and continuance in managing the relationship.
As you grow on the job, you will more and more follow up on the leads you generated yourself, create fitting proposals and close deals yourself.
Obviously, you are passionate to work in the impact space, making a difference by working on energy access.


  • You are available within a month;

  • You hold a Masters Degree or equivalent in Business Administration preferably with Sales and Marketing as specialisation;

  • You have relevant experience of at least 5 years, it’s a pre if that is in the rural sector;

  • You are an independent and thoughtful sales and marketing professional, eager to get hands on experience and have flair for learning;

  • You have a structured work approach, being able to set a clear structure that matches the targets and goals growing towards coordination of sales accounts and process (including status of lead, to-do’s per lead, planning per lead, ensuring follow-ups, etc);

  • You are a social person who likes to meet new people and explore new ideas;

  • You are strong in senior level engagements of business partners, NGO’s/CSR and government bodies;

  • You have strong communicative skills;

  • You are fluent in both English and Hindi in writing and speech;

  • You are comfortable in making cold calls, able to generate leads and eager to close deals;

  • You are comfortable promoting the concept and product to larger audiences,

  • You are able to work structured and systematic;

  • You are able to take on defined target, and deliver on those within the set time;

  • You are willing to travel (rural areas mostly);

  • You have at least basic skills in working with office tools, being able to make professional, customised proposals;

  • You are comfortable working in a small, but growing, team while also able to work independently to deliver the objectives;

  • You are technically savvy, as although we focus on the concept and value proposition, it is a technical product we’re selling.

Key result areas

  • Build a credible pipeline of prospective clients, understanding client needs, developing customised client proposals, deliver client presentations;

  • Make cold calls and generate new sales leads, as well as closing deals.

  • Create a strong sales-funnel structure, coordinating the sales department of Rural Spark;

  • Create strong business proposals, an offer fitting the specific client;

  • Help make and realise the strategy around Sales and Marketing objectives;

  • If and when required, to stand in for the Head of Sales and Marketing.

We are a company based in the Netherlands that has an Indian subsidiary where almost everything is happening. There are 7 of us working out of our office in Greater Kailash in New Delhi.

We design, build and implement innovative energy products that allow our customers to use solar energy and share this energy within their village.
