Job description

We are looking for a Sr. Certification Engineer who will be part of a multi-disciplined team focused on new offer creation for the North American market. Driven by the sustained growth of the residential home and commercial building space, Schneider Electric’s Prosumer business is developing connected and controllable offers that provide innovative and energy-efficient solutions for consumers to manage their energy usage, while focusing on sustainability and carbon footprint reduction.

This Certification Engineer with demonstrated experience will lead product compliance to local codes and standards in meeting industry requirements and regulations – both domestic and international. As a team player and with familiarity in the Agile product management process, you will leverage technical domain expertise in power generation and distribution equipment (EV chargers, inverters, energy storage systems, solar panels, batteries, etc.), product knowledge and testing know-hows to ensure product compliance to codes and standards while meeting product cost target and project schedule.

About the role

  • Lead product compliance and serve as primary contact or “liaison” between Company and certification agencies (UL, CSA, etc.) in product development, application, performance, and compliance.
  • Participate in strategic reviews and provide input and direction to product roadmaps that align with codes and standards and business objectives. Orchestrate product approvals & certifications with the applicable agencies (UL, CSA, etc.).
  • Translates relevant codes and standards requirements into product requirements and design guidelines. Communicate with offer management and guide design engineering teams to ensure compliance to specifications and problem resolution.
  • Field questions from technical staff back to internal and external contacts to obtain answers, and refine our understanding and interpretation of relevant codes and product standards.
  • Plan, draft, review, update and execute certification test plans with both internal and external inputs. Coordinate with certification agencies and internal/external laboratories to get necessary testing and certifications done on time and under budget.
  • Monitor activities in relevant codes and standards bodies (UL/CSA, NFPA, NEMA, IEC, ISO, etc.), and track evolving standards. Act as the reference for products.
  • Responsible for certification agency costs associated to projects that include engineering evaluations, testing and reports/procedures. Support audits by working directly with certification agencies auditor on the description and definition of engineering practices.
  • Plan, execute and functionally directs important certification assignments, which require sound engineering judgment. Identify and solve complex engineering problems without assistance.
  • Be proactive about challenges or constraints within a project and seek to manage them accordingly.
  • Adhere to safety, cybersecurity and sustainability policies and procedures, including any business-specific requirements.

About you

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronic Engineering, or Mechatronics or related technical programs.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in product safety and regulatory compliance of distributed generation systems and equipment to relevant standards, such as UL 2594/2202/9741/1741/67/50E, IEEE 1547, and global standards such as VDE 4105
  • Good knowledge in EMI/EMC standards both FCC and IEC/EN 61000 series of the standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems design and technical ownership of distributed generation systems and utility interconnection or other power conversion, control, and protection equipment.
  • Experience of product communication and networking protocol is a plus
  • Willingness to work in a process driven environment (formalized documentation and approval management environment)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, ability to tailor to all levels of an organization.
