ARE participates in the UN/Austria Symposium
On 17-18 July 2024, ARE attended the UN/ Austria Symposium 2024 in Graz, Austria. The Symposium aims to bridge the gap between space applications and technologies providers, users and wider community.
This year’s edition focused on the cross-fertilisation of ideas and experience among policy makers, service providers, the private sector, academia and user communities and fostering collaboration among different groups.
Deepak Mohapatra, ARE Senior Officer – Business and Market Development, spoke at the session “Capacity building: implementing new tools for widespread and effective use”, where he presented ARE’s capacity building activities.
The capacity building work of ARE is divided into two streamlines:
- access to finance and
- access to engineering, innovation and technology.
Under access to finance, ARE’s Investment Academy series counts six editions already, and under which 100 companies have been trained. In addition, ARE’s CORE initiative marks the delivery of training modules on technical subjects under which more than 210 trainers and more than 3,050 practitioners have been trained in 15 different countries.
He also emphasised the need for local capacity building as a means to empower the local population with the necessary skills and knowledge to grow. He emphasised that multi-stakeholder participation is essential for addressing climate action. He also highlighted the significant potential of space-based technologies to collaborate with non-space technologies to achieve desired outcomes, such as energy access and energy transition.
