Tamarso

Tamarso is a medium enterprise operating in Somalia, specialising in the provision of solar energy.

Tamarso mainly serves Commercial and Industrial (C&I) clients, but we also serve residential clients. Tamarso has installed 134 solar systems to date, adding up to a total capacity of 3.5 MW. We utilise high-quality solar products coupled with qualified and experienced solar installation professionals. We also offer financing to potential solar installation clients so as to waive the step upfront fees required for solar and also to relieve cash flow pressures for business firms. We also delve into solar mini-grids where we produce and supply electricity generated from solar PV modules.

We aim to electrify rural areas, especially rural coastal areas. The main aim we chose the rural areas was to implement productive use of solar energy (solar cooling) in our mini-grids, as an additional product offering. The main reason we chose rural coastal areas is that the individuals residing in the rural areas adopt fishing as their main economic activity. Thus, we implement fish cooling/freezing. We currently have two mini-grids, and we are currently endeavoring to scale up the business model.
