The Company
GadgetroniX is a leading distributor of globally renowned solar, water, security & surveillance, and communication equipment in Tanzania. Working with a team of highly competent staff including over seventy expert technicians employed full-time, a group of electrical/mechanical engineers, and quantity surveyors, has enabled GadgetroniX to specialise in an array of areas including communication, energy systems, water systems, electric vehicles, mobile signal boosters, networking, and security & surveillance systems.
GadgetroniX represents several well-recognised international companies in the pursuit of developing, testing, and promoting clean energy technologies and other services to empower individuals and businesses.
The Challenge
Saadani Kasa Bay Lodge faced several challenges, including the unreliable access to grid electricity, which made it difficult to power essential operations like laundry, water pumping, and staff facilities. The lack of consistent power also led to high operational costs and environmental concerns. The lodge was committed to providing an eco-friendly experience for its guests, which meant finding a reliable, renewable energy solution that would both reduce operational costs and enhance sustainability.
Renewable Solution
To overcome these challenges, GadgeTroniX introduced a comprehensive off-grid solar power and energy storage solution for the lodge. The system includes:
- 59.4 kWp solar array – 108 high-efficiency JA Solar MBB Half-cell Monocrystalline PV Modules (550W each)
- 100 kWh lithium battery – 1 x Freedom Won LiTE Commercial 100/80 – 100 kWh HV LiFePO4 Battery for energy storage
- 100 kW hybrid inverter – 1 x Growcol MPS 100KW Hybrid Inverter for converting solar power to usable electricity
- Remote monitoring – Freedom Won Glacier system for real-time monitoring and performance tracking
- Generator power backup – 88 kVA Generator (FG Wilson / Caterpillar) for backup power during periods of low sunlight
This solar-powered solution provides the lodge with a reliable, off-grid energy supply, reducing the need for expensive and inconsistent grid power, while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Project Outcome
The successful installation of the off-grid solar power system resulted in several key outcomes:
- Reliable and sustainable power supply: The system now powers the entire lodge, including the laundry, water pumps, and staff areas, ensuring consistent energy without the dependence on the local grid.
- Cost savings: With solar power reducing reliance on diesel generators and the local grid, the lodge has significantly lowered its operational costs.
- Environmental impact reduction: By utilising renewable solar energy, the lodge has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, aligning with its eco-conscious values and commitment to sustainability.
- Energy independence: The hybrid system, coupled with energy storage, ensures that the lodge operates off-grid, even during periods of low sunlight, reducing the need for backup generators.
- Remote monitoring: The Freedom Won Glacier system allows for real-time monitoring and management of the energy system, ensuring optimal performance and reducing maintenance costs.
- Backup power assurance: The backup generator ensures uninterrupted power supply during rare power shortages, ensuring a continuous guest experience.
Overall, the off-grid solar power solution implemented by GadgeTroniX at Saadani Kasa Bay Lodge has greatly enhanced the lodge’s energy efficiency, reduced its operational costs, and supported its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly tourism.
