VoltaViewAfrica – School Project (Kaolack/Senegal)

Who, What & Where

The Challenge

The Brusch & Ritscher Foundation enables the construction of a school centre in Kaolack/Senegal, resulting from a school and town partnership between the Lower Saxony town of Osterode and Kaolack in northwest of Senegal.

Renewable Solution

Solar energy combined with sodium-ion batteries is considered a sustainable solution for Africa because:

  • Africa has abundant solar resources.
  • Sodium-ion batteries are more affordable than lithium-ion batteries.
  • Sodium-ion batteries are more sustainable than lithium-ion batteries.
  • Both solar energy and sodium-ion batteries are scalable.
  • Solar energy and sodium-ion batteries are environmentally friendly.

Solar energy is a promising solution that can address many of Africa’s most pressing challenges. With continued investment and innovation, solar energy can help Africa achieve a sustainable and prosperous future.

Project Outcome

In November 2023, the first system components were brought to Kaolack, and the assembly and installation of the system took place in May 2024. The system is now operational.
