Project Manager/Business Developer



Job description

FUNDACION PLAN INTERNATIONAL ESPAÑA is seeking a Project manager/ Business Developer to join the International Program Unit of PLAN. He/she will support mainly the projects management and the business development activities worldwide. The nature of projects will mainly be related to green jobs and entrepreneurship/job creation based on energy access through solar-distributed PV or mini-grids. This includes the design and implementation of financial schemes to ensure access to energy in the unfavourable and poor areas of the world.

The strategic line to which she/he will be called to respond is to create a sustainable commercial/economic/financial/technical scheme that can enable a self-maintaining mechanism well beyond the implemented project. That through the attraction of public and private collaboration/investment in a specifically identified market areas of the targeted countries. Our goal is to make it possible a stable access to entrepreneurship and job opportunities for youth and women worldwide in order to increase their social and economic position.

He/she will report to the International Program YSS area Manager.


Responsibilities

He/she will work in the following areas:

Project Management

  1. Responsible for the Overall project management: control project timeline and budget, lead project teams and meeting deadlines, coordinate the collaboration with external partners (coordinate hiring, negotiation etc.) and external consultants’ deliverables.
  2. Client engagement: develop and maintain professional customer relations by participating in calls, meetings and field missions (when applicable).
  3. Project Monitoring and Evaluation support: ensure support and overseeing of the local Country Offices in the M&E aspects.
  4. Project Financial follow up: ensure a correct project financial execution in line with donors’ requirements.
  5. Prepare project deliverables and donors reporting: prepare and review data analysis, technical reports and other deliverables required by the project in a timely manner and with high quality writing. That include specifically all the donors requires reporting documents.
  6. Field missions. Travel to project sites when required.

Technical

  1. Feasibility Studies: Conduct technical and economic feasibility studies for Income Generating Activities, mainly connected to Solar PV plants and solar Isolated systems. Conduct energy planning studies. Experience with IGA sustainability projects in remote areas will be appreciated.
  2. Conceptualise technical solutions: Support the definition of technical solutions based on IGA / productive users and Financial Institution’s needs.
  3. Procurement documents: Elaborate and coordinate consultants (third parties) for the preparation of Technical Specifications for bidding documents, Support to the PLAN Country Offices on the elaboration of administrative procurement documentation, participation in tender evaluations.
  4. Support Financial and business models and delivery schemes: Support and coordinate consultants (Third Party) to carry out or review financial and economic models, Business Model, Tariff Setting, Revenue stream definition Client Policy, Funds mobilisation, Costing.
  5. Institutional, Policy and Regulatory Support: carry out institutional framework analysis, develop strategic and planning documents in the field of sustainable energy, policy and regulatory frameworks, tariff setting among others.
  6. Capacity building: prepare and deliver trainings for public and private stakeholders.

Business Development

It will be highly considered past experience in Business Development activities related to the following potential key-points, where the candidate could be called to support the rest of the team:

  1. Business development:
  • identifying funding opportunities at international and local level (in collaboration with local teams).
  • Identifying and anticipate call for proposals
  • Identifying and negotiate with relevant actors and potential partners.
  • Check constantly the public/private sectors funding initiatives / trends including among others (development banks, Foundations, Private companies, Public Funds, etc)
  1. Market trends analysis. Support and coordinate the local countries team to identify and analyse the local economic sectors/value chain to be targeted.
  2. Local Public policies and strategic lines. Company and coordinate the local countries teams to identify the most relevant economic sectors targeted by public bodies/funds locally, in order to create synergies, collaboration possibilities, funding opportunities
  3. Private Sector. Think and design inclusions mechanism for private actors to participate in financing/implementing/operate RE project for economic development in rural areas of poor countries.
  4. Preparing proposals. Support the BDM team in preparing proposal for technical aspects related to RE.

Profile

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following competences:

  1. Educational Background. A technical degree is desired. Specific education in renewable energies, energy efficiency and management, sustainable energy, energy access. climate change will be an advantage. Background/experience in International cooperation, Economics or Finance will be positively valued.
  2. Previous Work Experience. 2/3 years of experience in the energy sector Project Management is required. The following will be considered as added value:
  • Knowledge of Financial mechanism (blended finance, revolving funds etc)
  • Experience in development cooperation project management
  • Experience in engaging with clients
  • Experience in Africa will be an advantage
  • Experience in International Business Development
  1. Specific knowledge. Knowledge in any of the following will be valued:
  • PV or other RE source mini-grids / SHS, PicoPV
  • Other renewable energies: small wind, bioenergy
  • Power Tariffs, PPAs / Regulatory Framework
  1. Languages. Fluency in French and English with writing skills. Spanish is highly desirable.
  2. Computer Skills. Excellent command in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel are required.
  3. Interests. Passionate about renewable energies and sustainable development; Motivation to travel internationally.

Salary and benefits: Depending on qualifications of candidate.
