UNIDO
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialised agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalisation and environmental sustainability.
Promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and increase access to reliable, affordable and clean energy is an essential part of its mandate.
The ARE-UNIDO Cooperation
Based on its Memorandum of Understanding signed by UNIDO in December 2019, ARE led the initiative together with INENSUS, AfDB Green Mini-Grid Help Desk and AMDA, to co-develop a new regulatory toolkit for decision-makers in Africa. The new toolkit considers ongoing developments since the first Mini-Grid Policy Toolkit was published in 2014.
The Clean Energy Mini-Grid Policy Development Guide was launched in 2021. It outlines the various forms and models that public-private cooperation could take and reflects on the outcomes of policy decisions on mini-grid deployment.
